MCCLIENT Compression Proxy
MCCLIENT performs decompression of the MUD client compression protocol (MCCP). This protocol allows Materia Magica to compress all data it sends to you. This reduces the bandwidth used by the game. It also tends to speed up your connection to the game somewhat - less data is sent, so packet loss is less likely, and large output can actually get there faster.

It works by accepting connections on YOUR machine, and redirecting them to the game. The connection to the game is compressed, but the local connection is not - so you can use whatever client you normally use without any modifications being needed.

If you're running a client that supports MCCP (such as ZMUD versions 6.10 and greater), you don't need this proxy. If you're unsure about whether or not your client supports MCCP please consult the client's documentation and/or web page.

This client is free to use and is available for download here.

Beginning with the earliest MUDs (Multi User Dungeons), on through today's MUSHes, MUXes, MOOs, MUCKs and all the other varied offspring of the original MUD, there have been text-based multiuser games around since the early days of the Internet. But to connect to these MU*s, you generally need a client slightly more advanced than plain old telnet!
